Yo CREO: Cambio, Acción, Educación

This initiative (I believe: Change, Action and Education) was granted by the Daniels Fund, and began in early 2006 on Entravision radio and television properties. The program is designed to teach the mostly Spanish-speaking audience about their rights and responsibilities under the U.S. education system. The program is a partnership between the Daniels Fund, Entravision and Hispanic CREO, a Washington, D.C. based organization dedicated to educational reform for members of the Latino community.

Once funding was approved, CREO promptly engaged local Latino community educational activists to conduct parent workshops on education. From these workshops, they were able to build a database of workshop attendees in order to have ready access to parents with a demonstrated interest in improving their child's education. Program partners then teamed up with the Latin American Research and Service Agency (LARASA) to produce an English/Spanish guide, listing every school option in the Denver Metro area.

Entravision provided television and radio spots to drive viewers to a toll-free number. Once viewers and listeners call in, they are informed about Hispanic CREO events and activities and are invited to CREO school choice training. Entravision also includes stories in their evening news, as well as live interview segments during their morning news show, Despierta America.
